Scopello

Italy, as a country and culture, has given my family and I so much throughout our summers spent there. From unforgettable sun-drenched days laying out on the beach, to beautiful friends and connections rooted in authenticity and tenderness, Italy has never been shy of sharing its beautiful culture with our family, and has always left us full of boundless inspiration. Our gratitude to this place and its people is insurmountable.

For how much Italy has embraced us, there are no words to fully express our love and deep appreciation for this country and all it has offered us, and the world at large. Today we are sending our love and warmest thoughts to all of the people of Italy. In ode to them, we feel honored to be able to share our Scopello trip with you this week.

Scopello served as a gentle reminder of how beautiful life is when able to take it slow. We spent many days on the beach as a family, eating ice cream, admiring the scenery, reading stories, and wading in the water until sundown.

Our Airbnb was strikingly beautiful and different from some of our other accommodations while traveling through Italy. With no internet access, it allowed us to convene as a family more intimately. We read, ate, played games, and rested together while enjoying the space. It also adorned a magnificent kitchen for us to prepare our meals. We would gather our produce from an impeccable market located nearby, full of fresh and unbelievably delicious delights, calledMarket Scopello.

Reading became synonymous with our stay, and as we ran out of books to read we were lucky enough to have found a bookstore, some 20 or so minutes away, in San Vito Lo Capo. We rented a car and traveled there to find more stories to indulge in, and of course, came out pleased with our selections. One of the books I found there still rings as one of the most beautiful I’ve ever read, it’s title isDivorare il Cielo.

Many of our beach visits were spent at Spiaggia di Guidaloca. At this beach you’re able to rent beds for sunbathing and lounging, and the water is the most vibrant shade of blue. Astrid and Dimitri loved coming here, as they made wonderful friends on this beach.

Spiaggia di Guidaloca is accompanied by a delicious beach side cafe namedLido Torre di Guidaloca. We found ourselves eating here many times during our stay, dining onthe best mussels and clams, and became dear friends with Mimmo, the owner. Mimmo so graciously facilitated a boat trip with a skipper for our family, giving our family the unbelievable opportunity to see Italy not just on land, but on the sea, too. Mimmo remains a cherished friend in Scopello, and his restaurant is absolutely worth attending.

Beaches in Scopello are one of its most alluring features. Another beach we loved is called the Tuna Factory, named for its past as a Tuna Factory! Not far from there is another amazing cove, Cala Mazzo di Sciacca, an exceptional spot to swim and relax at.

On the beach in Scopello, a kind man asked if he could take a photo of Dimitri. He so graciously gave it to us after!

Scopello will forever live in our hearts and minds, as it allowed us to create such vivid memories as a family, full of love and enjoyment. We are so thankful to have experienced Scopello, and we hope to again soon enough.
